16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence Inter-Secondary School Debate Competition.

In observance of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, Rainbo Initiative organised Inter-Secondary School Debate Competition on the topic “To prevent and to respond which is more preferable in the fight against Gender-Based Violence in Sierra Leone”.
The debate was to raise awareness on Sexual Gender-Based Violence prevention and response, providing information that enables schools and communities to reports incidences of SGBV when they occur, including raising awareness on existing services and providers.
Congratulations to Yayah Jargue Tarawallie from Albert Academy Secondary School for being awarded as ‘Best Speaker’ of the competition.

Covid-19/SGBV Response Training Session

Rainbo Initiative opens the newly constructed Rainbo Centre of Excellence for SGBV survivors in Bo by The First Lady Fatima Maada Bio.

This Centre of Excellence is built within the Bo Government Hospital with funds from the European Union in Sierra LeoneIrish AidOpen Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA) and Purposeful to continue providing free services to SGBV survivors and serve as a training hub that promotes best practice for clinical management of sexual assault in the district.
In November 2018 Rainbo Initiative started operation in Bo District and opened the Rainbo Centre at the Bo Government Hospital that provides free medical treatment and psychosocial support to survivors of SGBV. Since then the Centre has supported over 1,300 SGBV survivors and has increased access to SGBV services for victims in and around the district.

Awareness Raising

Training of Police (FSU), PHU Health Workers and Community Stakeholders.

Today, we certified 44 Police (FSU), 16 PHU Health Workers and 30 Community Stakeholders after a week training on Sexual Gender-Based Violence Response and Referral Services.
The desired aim of the training is to end SGBV in Sierra Leone and strengthen coordination and networking between the different partners and community stakeholders.
The training also served as an opportunity for the various partners to have a dialogue on the challenges faced in fighting SGBV and agree on the way forward.
