Rainbo Initiative has its roots in the aftermath of the Sierra Leone civil war, when the 2002 Sierra Leone Truth and Reconciliation Commission recommended that the government provide free psychosocial support and reproductive health services to women affected by the conflict. In response to this call, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) established the Rainbo Centres in Freetown, Kenema, and Kono, thus laying the foundation for Rainbo Initiative. In 2014, Rainbo Initiative was registered as a national non-governmental organisation in Sierra Leone, with an Executive Director at the helm.
Over the years, Rainbo Initiative has become a trusted and reliable anti-sexual violence organisation committed to providing free medical, psychosocial, and age-appropriate treatment services to survivors of rape and sexual assault, coupled with community outreach and national advocacy efforts. We remain ambitious in consolidating our gains in Sierra Leone and have expanded to Liberia and Guinea.
